MAC Nordstrom Anniversary Lip Haul Review & Swatches

Lip Haul

MAC Lip Haul Up Close & Personal Lip Set ($59.50 for 0.6 oz.) is a new, limited edition set exclusive to Nordstrom (now sold out online, you may still find it in stores). It includes six, full-sized products; three lipsticks and three lipglosses. In general, lighter, creamier Lipglasses tend to apply unevenly or sink into lip lines, while the lipsticks were decent but not particularly noteworthy.

Shhhh

Shhhh is a light-medium, pink-coral with a cream finish. It had a milkier quality to the color, which resulted in a poor application of product: uneven, splotchy, and every line (and then some!) was filled noticeably with product. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer paired with a moderately sticky, light-medium thick texture. This shade stayed on well for four hours and was hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$17.50/0.1 oz. - $175.00 Per Ounce

The Lipglass formula is supposed to be “pigmented, very shiny and can impart subtle or dramatic color” that can be worn “on its own, over lip pencil or lipstick” and will “condition lips.” MAC could use an update on the description as some shades are more pigmented than others but several are sheerer and likely intended to be that way. The formula has a very glossy, high-shine finish with a light-medium weight and moderate tackiness.

I have found that newer Lipglasses (over the last couple of years) are smoother and not quite as tacky as the formula was many years ago. They wear from three to six hours on me and are usually lightly hydrating. MAC recently updated the shade range and packaging for the range (though the formula was said to be unchanged), so worth noting is that with that packaging change came a reduction in quantity to 0.10 fl. oz. (was 0.17 fl. oz.), which may matter for some but not everyone.

Lust

Lust is a light-medium, coral-brown with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had good color coverage in a single layer, though it did not apply evenly and sank noticeably into my lip lines. The texture was smooth, moderately tacky, and thicker, though it wasn’t thick to the point where it actually felt heavy. It wore well for four and a half hours and was moisturizing over time.

Indoor Voices

Indoor Voices is a medium-dark coral with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied evenly and spread well across my lips with good dispersion of the shimmer/sparkle. The consistency was light-medium in thickness, moderately tacky, but it didn’t feel heavy to wear. There was a bit of product that sank into my deeper lip lines, though it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It lasted nicely for four and a half hours and was hydrating over time.

Care to Share

Care to Share is a medium-dark, brownish peach with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered evenly to my lips but pulled away along my lip lines, so it appeared “cracked” at times. The texture was dense without being too firm, so it still glided across my lips without tugging on them, and had enough slip that it was comfortable to wear. It stayed on well for four hours and was non-drying over time.

Formula Overview

$19.50/0.1 oz. - $195.00 Per Ounce

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying. Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying. The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Dahhlinggg

Dahhlinggg is a pale, peachy beige with warmer undertones and a natural sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage in one pass, which applied a bit unevenly and sank into some of my lip lines. The texture was lightweight, thin without being clingy, and had moderate slip with a touch of tackiness. It wore well for three and a half hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Look Both Ways

Look Both Ways is a muted, medium-dark peach with moderate, warm undertones and a cream finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque, while the texture was lightly creamy, smooth, and had enough slip that it didn’t tug on my lips but didn’t slide around during wear. It lasted nicely for four hours and was neither drying nor hydrating while worn.
