Lip Sets

Rave: In general, mostly raves from me — they’re often a great way to get a good variety of color/finish in a formula one enjoys without paying full price. In fact, a lot of them are travel-sized, which is still plenty of product, and I’d rather spend less upfront and replace if and when I ever need to! Rant: Sometimes they’re TOO small and can easily break at the base, and then other times sets feel redundant – like a beige, red, etc.

Where this palette shines is in its cohesive, yet versatile, color scheme. The left side of the palette has a pink/purple vibe, while the right side is warmer, earthier with taupe and green brown. The mattes in the palette are some of the brand’s best; they had some of the soft, lightly powdery nature that most expect from the brand’s formula, but I had hardly any fallout from the mattes and found them to be quite pigmented and blendable overall. MAC Cheer Up Glow Play Blush Review & Swatches

Cheer Up MAC Cheer Up Glow Play Blush ($30.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a brighter, light-medium coral with subtle, pink-leaning and moderately warm undertones paired with a satin sheen. There was very faint and fine pearl throughout, so it didn’t have a full-on matte finish but did not appear overly shimmery either. The texture was smooth to the touch and malleable where I could push against the surface and get a lasting indent, but it didn’t have the traditional wetness of a true cream blush. It felt more like powder once it came into contact with my skin, and I didn’t have issues with the product lifting up base products when I patted this over my liquid foundation. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage with a fingertip and more semi-sheer, buildable coverage with a brush. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly. Rose Nu (88) YSL Rose Nu (88) Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick ($38.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a medium pink with warm undertones and a natural sheen. The lipstick yielded medium color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly and didn’t settle into or emphasize my lip lines, despite being a creamier, more emollient formula. It felt lightweight and was comfortable to apply and to wear as it felt like a balm-lipstick hybrid. It lasted well for four hours and was hydrating over time.
