Urban Decay Sparkle Out Loud Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliners Reviews & Swatches (Part 1)

Disco Daydream

Urban Decay Disco Daydream Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner ($21.00 for 0.25 oz.) is holographic and silver glitter suspended in a clear base. It has a thin, brush-style applicator that makes it easier to apply a thin line of product, particularly if one was layering it over a liquid or pencil eyeliner. I was able to disperse and spread the glitter on fairly evenly with the included applicator. It has a very wet feel initially but does dry down and set in place for long-wear with very minimal fallout/migration over time.

Formula Overview

$21.00/0.25 oz. - $84.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be "buildable" with "superfine glitter" that "dries down quickly and really stays put." For more opaque coverage, the brand recommends removing the wiper (the black component inside the opening of the tube) to get a lot more product on the brush, though I've found this to be messy and easy to over-apply (with a very long dry-down time).

When the wiper is left in, it is a fairly sheer to semi-sheer coverage product that is difficult to get in a long, even line. My best advice is to apply in short strokes and going back for more product as needed or use a separate brush to apply. Once in place, the formula lasts a really long time--eight to nine hours--with minimal fallout.

Gunmetal

Urban Decay Gunmetal Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner ($21.00 for 0.25 oz.) includes fine, black and silver glitter suspended in a clear base. This shade has been released in the past (I reviewed it in 2014), and it is consistent with the last version I recall. The base was intended to be clear, so it is a sheerer, more buildable product that works well for layering on top of other products, like eyeliner or eyeshadow. Despite being in a liquid format, it works well over powder eyeshadow, pencil eyeliner, and liquid eyeliner. This is one of the more toned down takes on glitter, since the black glitter is less reflective. It wore well for eight hours with very minimal fallout/movement.

Goldmine

Urban Decay Goldmine Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner ($21.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a glittering finish paired with a clear base. It had semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation, though it was more practical to top out at more medium to semi-opaque coverage with the thin, brush-type applicator. The texture was thin, watery, but it spread fairly easily across my skin with good glitter dispersion (slight room for improvement, though!). It stayed on well for eight hours with very minimal fallout/migration.

Urban Decay Starfire Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner ($21.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a mix of gold and copper glitter suspended in a clear base. It seemed to have an array of sizes, too, which gave it more depth and more “coverage” when applied. It had semi-sheer, buildable pigmentation (in the form of glitter) that dispersed well over my skin (bare or layered on top of other products). The texture was lightweight, watery, and wet to work with, but it dried down quickly and set for solid eight-hour wear with very minimal fallout/movement.
