Pretty Guardian
Colour Pop Pretty Guardian 12-Pan Pressed Powder Shadow Palette ($20.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new palette from the brand’s upcoming Sailor Moon collection (which launches February 20th at 10AM PT). It features nine eyeshadows, two Pressed Pigments (Tuxedo Rose and Miracle Romance), and one Pressed Glitter (Mare Serenitatis).
The palette contained several mattes with sparkle throughout them, so those who don’t mind a bit of sparkle fallout or a few random sparkles that diffuse and blend with some imprecision will enjoy the palette more than those who like true mattes. They’re not the worst sparkle-over-matte formula I’ve come across, but they still have some inherent issues with fallout and dispersion. The mattes also seemed a little more powdery with the exception of Miracle Romance.
It is a palette I’d apply prior to base products so that any fallout can easily be wiped away. Otherwise, I found it easy enough to work with as the mattes applied evenly, blended out nicely, and maintained their intensity/depth and the shimmers were workable. I’ve noticed some of the brand’s more recent shimmers seem a little drier, so they apply easiest with a dampened brush or fingertip; this was the case for Fullmoon but Luna and Silver Crystal I could use dry.
The cover of the palette features lenticular print that shifts between two images from what I saw (the blush compacts shift between three), which more of the standout as it’s not something often seen in beauty and not something I’ve seen from the brand before.

Shining Moon
Shining Moon is a light-medium, yellowed peach with warm undertones paired with a sparkling, matte finish. It had semi-opaque coverage with a moderately powdery texture, which had some fallout and was prone to sheering out. I had to be careful to press this shade into place during application to manage the fallout. There were only a few stray sparkles that seemed to translate during application and were gone by the time I removed my makeup. The color stayed on nicely for seven hours before fading a bit.

Twilight Flash is a light orange with strong, warm yellow undertones and a matte finish. The texture was more powdery, though it was dense and more substantial, so while there was fallout during application and some excess kicked up in the pan, it had nearly opaque coverage even after blending it out. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably on me.

Silver Crystal is a pale pink base with a subtle, golden sheen. The texture was smooth to the touch with moderate slip and wasn’t too firmly nor too loosely-pressed into the pan. It had nearly opaque color payoff that adhered well to bare skin and blended out well along the edges. It lasted well for eight hours on me before showing signs of fading.

Moon Castle
Moon Castle is a medium-dark peach with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was soft, moderately powdery but blendable and managed to retain its pigmentation and near-full opacity when applied to bare skin. The eyeshadow started to show signs of fading on me after eight hours of wear.

Fullmoon

Silver Millennium
Silver Millennium is a pale, white gold with a smooth, metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single layer, which didn’t build up much. The texture was smooth, emollient, and was consistent with the Super Shock Shadow formula.
As it was more metallic, it had a bit of a wetter feel, and I didn’t feel like it build up as well as it seemed to thicken and look patchy when I tried for a second or third layer. It stayed on well for 10 hours without creasing or fading. For those who don’t mind or prefer this type of shade as a layering or accent shade, it should work just fine for that purpose.

Luna (Sailor Moon) is a medium lavender with subtle, cool undertones and cooler pink-to-blue shifting pearl. The texture was more loosely-pressed into the pan, so it worked better with a flat, synthetic brush and then patted on or with a dampened brush; the latter ensured there was no chance for fallout. It had good pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer. There were slight signs of fading after eight hours of wear.

Mare Serenitatis
Mare Serenitatis is a medium-dark pink base with moderate, warm undertones paired with flecks of larger, gold glitter. It contains plastic glitter, which comes with the warning that it isn’t intended to be used around the eye area. As far as the brand’s Pressed Glitters go, this actually had a significant base color that came through, so it was more like a blend of typical eyeshadow along with glitter.
It had good coverage in a single layer, but the glitter distributed a little unevenly and seemed a bit more prone to migration than Pressed Glitters I’ve tried that have a more translucent base. I’d still say vastly improved over products like it from a few years ago, but I’d still recommend using it with an adhesive base to minimize fallout/migration.

Justice
Justice is a brighter, medium yellow with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish with light micro-sparkle throughout. Some of the sparkles translated during application, even after blending and diffusing the edge of the shade, but there was light fallout/migration of the sparkles, and it wasn’t always an even spread of sparkle on the area I applied it to.
The texture was soft, not too thin, and a little powdery in the pan so I’d recommend using a lighter hand with it when initially picking up product. It had opaque coverage that lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Love
Love is a medium-dark pink with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish that had micro-sparkle throughout it. The consistency was moderately powdery, so you’ll want to use a lighter touch with it initially and build up coverage as necessary to avoid excess product kicked up in the pan and minimize the opportunity for fallout during application.
It had good coverage that applied evenly, blended out well, and was easy enough to work with overall. Some of the sparkles did translate onto my lid/eye area, but they didn’t distribute as evenly as an actual shimmer eyeshadow would. This type of finish is becoming more popular within ColourPop’s releases, and while some have been better than past experiences I’ve seen with sparkle-over-matte eyeshadows, they have not perfected it yet. This shade stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Miracle Romance
Miracle Romance is a brighter, deep lavender with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that adhered evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The texture was slightly thinner compared to other mattes–though no powderiness as a result–but it blended out easily, so it didn’t end up to be a concern. It wore well for nine hours before fading and left a subtle stain after removal.

The majority of the shades are semi-opaque to opaque in coverage, blend out fairly well, and can sometimes be a bit drier/more powdery compared to typical matte shades. They often wear eight to nine hours on me before fading, but many shades in the Pressed Pigment family leave some staining behind.
