Anastasia Sunset Eyeshadow Quad ($32.00 for oz.) is a new, limited edition quad that features a soft brown, silvery blue, bronze, and mid-tone taupe. It is exclusive to Anastasia’s website, and the shade Birkin is part of the permanent range (though the version in the palette is significantly better!). It’s a very workable quad, especially for those who typically use primer, which will help improve longevity and mitigate some of the dryness in the formula for a couple of shades.

Birkin

Birkin is a light-medium brown with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that applied evenly and blended out nicely on my skin. There was slight fallout when I initially applied it due to the powderiness. This shade is part of the permanent range, but the payoff and texture were significantly improved in the version in the quad compared to my single. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Anastasia Eyeshadow is supposed to be a “finely-milled, highly-pigmented” powder eyeshadow. There are several different finishes, and the performance can be better or worse depending on the finish, though it also ranges from shade to shade. On average, the formula is semi-opaque to opaque, lightly dusty to buttery, wears seven to nine hours, and is fairly blendable. The Metallic and Titanium finishes seem to be the best-performing to me, but there are some really standout mattes and shimmers as well. I have not tried the sparkle, satin, or velvet finishes as extensively as the other finishes, personally.

Blue Flash

Blue Flash is a silvery blue with cool undertones and flecks of blue-to-violet sparkle over a frosted finish. The consistency was drier and had noticeable excess that kicked up in the pan when I worked with it, and as a result, there was also some fallout. It had good color coverage but had to really packed and pressed onto my lid to maintain that intensity or else it would sheer out. I highly recommend using this with a dampened brush–just water is sufficient–to improve the adhesion, payoff, and overall application of this shade. I did not get much shift with it, swatched or applied to my lid, even when I contorted myself to try and see it. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably on me.

Streak is a medium, rosy bronze with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had opaque pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that was denser without being thick or too firmly pressed in the pan. The eyeshadow applied evenly to my lid and blended out with little effort. It lasted nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Horizon is a medium-dark taupe-brown with neutral-to-cool undertones and barely-there lavender micro-shimmer over a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable color payoff that applied evenly to my skin and diffused well along the edges without losing its intensity too readily. The texture was thinner, slightly drier, but it built up well and was easy to work with overall. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before it started to fade on me.
