ColourPop Butterfly Collection Swatches

Is it a day that ends in a Y? Here are swatches of the upcoming ColourPop Butterfly Collection, which launches Thursday, November 21st at 10AM PT. The collection includes a new eyeshadow palette, five Velvet Blur Lipsticks (sold as a set or individually), four Super Shock Shadows, two Jelly Much Shadows, and a new product/formula, a loose highlighter with a large pouf.

As a fun fact: MAC used to reign supreme with the most releases per year, but these days, ColourPop is pacing slightly ahead. MAC used to release 40 to 70 launches a year, but this year, they’ve had 25 or less by my count (and several were complexion-focused, e.g. Studio Fix Sticks, or single-product offerings like Viva Glam 25 or all permanent products, like the Maleficent “collaboration”). MAC Cheer Up Glow Play Blush Review & Swatches

Cheer Up MAC Cheer Up Glow Play Blush ($30.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a brighter, light-medium coral with subtle, pink-leaning and moderately warm undertones paired with a satin sheen. There was very faint and fine pearl throughout, so it didn’t have a full-on matte finish but did not appear overly shimmery either. The texture was smooth to the touch and malleable where I could push against the surface and get a lasting indent, but it didn’t have the traditional wetness of a true cream blush. It felt more like powder once it came into contact with my skin, and I didn’t have issues with the product lifting up base products when I patted this over my liquid foundation. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage with a fingertip and more semi-sheer, buildable coverage with a brush. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly. Rose Nu (88) YSL Rose Nu (88) Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick ($38.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a medium pink with warm undertones and a natural sheen. The lipstick yielded medium color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly and didn’t settle into or emphasize my lip lines, despite being a creamier, more emollient formula. It felt lightweight and was comfortable to apply and to wear as it felt like a balm-lipstick hybrid. It lasted well for four hours and was hydrating over time.
