ColourPop Blush Crush Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Blush Crush

Colour Pop Blush Crush 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($12.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new, peach- and rose-tinted neutral palette with a mix of mattes and shimmers. They were fairly easy to work with and had good pigmentation, were blendable, and lasted around eight hours.

The issue I had, though, was that three of the mattes contained random sparkle that wasn’t mixed in with the base, so the sparkles tended to result in fallout or just widely dispersed during blending (if they translated). I find this type of product pretty to look at but not really functional since most of it gets lost and/or contributes to mess during application.

Lovesick

Lovesick is a light, pinky-peach with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, velvety texture that was thicker and more substantial, so it didn’t have as much fallout and wasn’t prone to sheering out like some lighter, peach/beige shades are. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Pop a Bottle

Pop a Bottle is a pale pink with warmer undertones and flecks of pink and gold sparkle. It was a Super Shock Shadow, which is a cream-to-powder formula, and it was consistent with the formula: lightly emollient, squishy in the pan but applied and felt more like powder once on the skin. It had semi-sheer coverage that didn’t build up that well, and I see it working better as a layering shade to add some sparkle or to highlight. It lasted well for nine hours without fading or creasing.

Formula Overview

$6.00/0.07 oz. - $85.71 Per Ounce

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow is a cream-based formula that comes in a multitude of shades and finishes. The more metallic shades have the most slip to them (they have a “wetter” feel), while the more matte ones have a firmer, more clay-like consistency. Almost every shade I’ve tried from ColourPop has been exceptionally long-wearing (10+ hours of wear, usually there until I remove, even 14 hours later). The pigmentation can vary from shade to shade, but the average shade is quite pigmented.

From feedback I’ve seen from readers, many love them but some don’t like them at all. They aren’t a traditional cream eyeshadow, as they are denser (more sponge-like), and they apply best with flat, firm, synthetic brushes (I like the MAC 242 and 249) for me. The brand recommends using fingers for the most pigmented application, but I’ve only felt that fingers were necessary on a few shades (usually the super glittery ones).

The more matte shades can be on the drier side and vary from medium to opaque in coverage, though they're often buildable.  They can be a little hard to diffuse the edges of, though some are lovely to work with.

The more glittery shades have been the weakest to me, as they can be sheerer or harder to apply.  Sometimes, they are more pigmented and work like the other finishes in the formula, but often, they are sheerer and only function well patted on top of more pigmented eyeshadows to add glitter.  They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter).

The One

The One is a medium, pink-leaning peach with a matte finish. The consistency was smooth, velvety, and blendable without being too powdery nor too firmly pressed into the pan. It had rich pigmentation that stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Enamored

Enamored is a light-medium peachy orange with warm undertones and a subtle, pinkish sheen. It had rich color coverage that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out well. The texture was soft, smooth, and lightly creamy without being too dense or too firmly pressed into the pan. It wore nicely for eight hours on me before I noticed signs of fading.

Made U Blush

Made U Blush is a medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. There were sparkles strewn throughout the product but did not bind with the underlying color, so they were prone to getting trapped in one’s brush, dispersing to parts known and unknown, and otherwise getting more in the way than contributing to improved performance.

The eyeshadow had opaque color payoff that adhered evenly and blended out well aside from the sparkle. It lasted well for eight hours before fading, and this shade had so little sparkle that adhered, it didn’t seem to result in continuous fallout during wear.

Blossom Up

Blossom Up is a medium-dark pink base with subtle, warm undertones paired with a lot of warmer, peachy gold shimmer and micro-sparkle. In practice, it read more peachy gold with slight pink undertone as opposed to a deeper pink. The texture was soft, smooth, and lightly emollient but adhered evenly with opaque coverage but had light fallout. This shade stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

How Rouge

How Rouge is a medium, rosy plum with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish with micro-sparkle strewn on top. It had that type of sparkle that looked pretty in the pan but contributed fallout during application–if any managed to actually “translate” from the brush. When I blended out the edges, stray sparkles dispersed to areas I had no desire for sparkles to me because they just don’t mix with the base color and are happy to fly away.

The base color had opaque coverage while the overall consistency was slightly dry and powdery in the pan but blended out evenly along the edges. It wore well for eight hours before fading a bit; there was a stray sparkle over time, too, but little adhered to begin with so fallout was very, very minor.

Cheek2Cheek

Cheek2Cheek is a muted, medium-dark coral with moderate, warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with less than a second layer. The texture felt slightly thinner and firmer in the pan, but I didn’t have issues picking it up nor when I went to blend out the edges. It lasted well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Blush Wine

Blush Wine is a medium-dark, reddened plum with moderate, warm undertones and flecks of gold micro-sparkle over a matte finish. The sparkles didn’t bind much with the underlying color, so it resulted in some fallout and imprecision as the sparkles dispersed when blending far further than the base color. It had opaque coverage in a single layer with a soft, lightly dusty texture that wasn’t too thin or too powdery, so it blended out nicely along the edges. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading; it seemed to have the tiniest amount of fallout but most of the sparkles seen in the pan didn’t translate to the lid to begin with.
