Red Lip Colors

I love red lip color in all forms–lipstick, lipgloss, or tinted lip balm! It can add so much brightness to my face, and I love how rich they often look on. The only downside is that more emollient or creamier formulas can be harder to maintain.

Lavender Extreme Tom Ford Beauty Lavender Extreme Lip Color ($54.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a deeper, lavender purple with warm, pink undertones and cooler pink and iridescent violet pearl throughout. It had more of a lightly glossy, metallic finish with a few larger sparkles. It had medium coverage in one layer, and it was buildable to semi-opaque coverage but was never fully opaque. The consistency was lightweight, emollient with noticeable slip, and comfortable to apply and to wear. It didn’t pull into my lip lines as much as expected, but the product caught slightly on minor imperfections of my lips. It wore well for three and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time. P.S. — I’m pretty sure the brand has the wrong description on their website, as the description they have listed is the same as they have for the Lip Sparks (and this doesn’t have the same bullet or texture as the Lip Sparks, and it is labeled “Lip Color” on the box). Slay (18) Sephora Slay (18) Rouge Lacquer ($13.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium pink with warm undertones and a cream finish. The color coverage was semi-opaque in one layer, but the formula didn’t lend itself to being buildable as it felt too slick when I did so. The texture was creamy, lightweight, and emollient, and it seemed to show in how this one looked on my lips–sank into some of my lip lines, caught on lip texture, and didn’t go on as evenly as it could have. The lipstick wore well for three and a half hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn.
